What’s My Car Worth?
Any trade-in process will likely start with this question, as it’s the most important factor. To determine your car’s worth, we recommend you try out our online Edmunds Trade-In tool. It’s from the Edmunds car website, and will produce what’s known as a True Market Value® that estimates your current car’s worth based on a variety of factors.
This tool will ask you to input data about your car—including its condition and mileage—and it will email your appraisal to you. Then, once you arrive at our dealership, someone from our team can also complete an in-person appraisal to make sure the online estimate was accurate.
How Do I Get the Most Value For My Car?
To give yourself the best chance of a high appraisal, make sure your car looks as nice as possible. Take it to a nearby car wash to rinse off any exterior mud or dirt, and polish up the windshield glass to make sure it’s clear of any debris.
Clean out the inside of your car by removing any personal items from the back seat, trunk, and glove compartment. Then, take a vacuum and run over the seats and trunk space to clear out dust and dirt.
Next, you’ll want to take care of small maintenance items. A few things you can do include filling up your car’s fluids, and adding air pressure to the tires. While checking the tires, make sure they all match—a matching set can help boost your value.
Should I Fix My Car Before a Trade In?
Not necessarily. The small items we outlined above should be relatively easy to complete on your own. Larger issues that you wouldn’t address at home can instead be completed by our service team.
What Do I Bring To Trade In My Car?
When you’re getting ready to trade in a vehicle, bring the following paperwork:
- Vehicle title
- Vehicle registration
- Owner’s manual
- Service records
It’s also important to bring the vehicle’s spare keys and any other accessories that came with it. In addition to your service records which document regular maintenance, bring any receipts if you purchased something new for the vehicle.
There’s also something you should
not bring, and that’s any personal data on your in-vehicle technology systems or garage door opener. For example, you may have your phone paired to the touchscreen via Bluetooth®, where it has access to your contacts and addresses. Make sure to unpair your phone and delete that data before trading in.
