How Should I Prepare for the End of My Lease?

About three months before your lease ends, you’ll want to start preparing for the return of the vehicle. You can decide to buy the vehicle to continue driving it, or you can seek out a new model to try.In these months leading up to the end of the lease, make sure you find all of the keys and fobs connected to the car, the owner’s manual, and other accessories like DVD system remotes if your car has one. You’ll also want to bring a copy of the lease agreement with you.
Additionally, make sure to clean out the vehicle and delete all personal data from the technology systems.

Does My Lease Need to Be Inspected?

It would help to schedule a lease inspection so that any issues with the vehicle can be addressed before you officially return it. You can schedule an inspection in the days leading up to your return, but two to three months out will be best to give yourself enough time if repairs are needed.
You can schedule this inspection by calling your state’s certified vendor or by using their website. This inspection is free, and you can decide where you’d like the inspector to meet you.

What Do They Look At During a Lease Inspection?

During a lease inspection, the inspector will look at the entirety of your vehicle to make sure it was well-kept. Regular wear and tear is expected to occur, so inspectors will mainly focus on any larger issues. They will inspect the exterior for damage in the form of dents, paint scratches, and rust. The tire treads will be looked at for wear, and the tires themselves will be checked to make sure that they match, and that they are the correct size. Lease inspectors will also look for any aftermarket installations you may have made to the vehicle, such as a different paint color, tinted windows, or changes to any internal components that were not authorized by a dealer. For the interior, they will look for stains or tears in the upholstery. They will also check for any interior equipment that might be broken or was replaced.
