What Should I Inspect on a Used Car?
If you see a used car on our website, you can stop by to check it out in person. Consider first how the vehicle looks. Aspects include a matching set of tires, a windshield with no cracks, and little to no paint scratches or dents.
You can then step inside the vehicle and look around the interior to inspect the seats for any tears. Then, try out various electrical components such as the following:
- Touchscreen system
- Air conditioner
- Light bulbs
- Power seats and windows
One other thing to look for is the dashboard warning lights. Make sure nothing lights up or blinks as you start the car. If the dashboard is clear of warnings and the above features check out during your inspection, you can request a test drive of the car and see how those systems work in motion.
What Do I Watch for During a Test Drive?
During the test drive, you’ll have a clear idea of what the car will feel like on your daily commutes. Listen closely for any loud engine noises or vehicle vibrations as you start up the car. Then, take the car off the lot and explore some different roads and parking lots throughout town.
As you come to stops along the way, note how well the brakes are working. When turning the vehicle, check that the turn signal works as it should and that the wheel can easily rotate. Overall, make sure you feel as comfortable as possible and that you can see yourself driving the vehicle for the long term.
